Do you track your food? Tracking your food, feel Do you track your food? 

Tracking your food, feelings and reactions to the food you eat can be a useful exercise for gaining more insight into what you're putting in your body. It can also be a tedious endeavour that sucks all the joy out of eating. 😅

If you're going to invest the time - and it can be quite time-consuming if you include any variety in your diet - let's make sure it's not a waste.

You might want to track your food for a short period of time if:
1. You have a goal where hitting a specific macronutrient and/or caloric intake is important.

2. You're conducting an experiment and want to see how your hunger changes when you eat more protein and less fat, or if your sleep improves if you increase your total carbs by a certain amount.

3. You suspect you aren't eating the right amount. For example, some people find that keto diet dramatically suppresses their appetites to the point where they need to intentionally eat more.

You don't need to track your food if:
1. You feel good and aren't looking to change anything.

2. You stick to the same basic meals most of the time.

3. You just don't want to. Your desire to eat intuitively outweighs your desire to manage your food intake.

You shouldn’t track your food if it triggers unhealthy eating behaviours or anxiety, or it otherwise messes with your mental and emotional well-being. Saying all that, there's no point in stressing. You should view tracking as a helpful but imprecise method of gathering data. Don't micromanage to the point of causing yourself grief or anxiety.

Best food tracking apps? 

There are lots of options out there. I personally like @myfitnesspal and @cronometer_official - both free apps and their desktop version have everything you need. The entries are all based on official food databases, so it's as accurate as you can get, and it provides pretty granular nutritional info.

SAUERKRAUT RECIPE - like, save and share! 🙌🏻 SAUERKRAUT RECIPE - like, save and share! 🙌🏻

Try making this basic sauerkraut recipe, then experiment with adding different veggies and herbs to your next batches for variety of flavours, colours and probiotics.

Makes about 1 kg

Ingredients
🥬1 medium cabbage, cored and shredded
🥬1 tablespoon of caraway seeds
🥬1 tablespoon of black peppercorns
🥬2 tablespoons of sea salt

Method
🥬In a bowl, mix cabbage with caraway seeds, peppercorns and sea salt. Pound with wooden pounder, meat hammer or massage with hands for about 10 min to release juices.
🥬Place in a 1L, wide-mouth mason jar or ceramic pot and press down firmly with a pounder or your fist until juices come up to the top of the cabbage.
🥬The top of the cabbage should be at least 3 cm below the top of the jar. Cover tightly and keep at the room temperature for about 3 days before transferring to cold storage.
🥬You can eat your sauerkraut straight away, but it improves with age!
