Why Our Tallow?
Tallow is a traditional skincare ingredient made by gently rendering and purifying animal fat. At Nourishing Works we choose suet (the rich fat from around the animal’s kidneys) from certified-organic, grass-fed beef cattle sourced from a New Zealand organic farm.
This produces an exceptionally clean, creamy tallow that is naturally lipid-rich and contains fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) and beneficial fatty acids – delivering deep long-lasting moisture and a comforting finish that supports soft, supple-feeling skin.

Yes – you might notice a slight graininess when the jar gets cold. This is super common with pure grass-fed tallow products and nothing to worry about.
Tallow is naturally rich in saturated fats like stearic and palmitic acid. These fats form small crystals as the cream cools — especially if cooling is uneven, temperatures fluctuate, or it’s not whipped during the process.
It’s completely normal and doesn’t affect quality at all. This is just a texture thing — not spoilage or a sign of lower quality. The nourishing vitamins, fatty acids, and skin benefits stay fully intact. It’s a natural quirk of working with real, minimally processed tallow (the same thing you see with high-quality butter or shea butter).
Easy fix: Just warm a small amount between your hands. The crystals melt quickly with body heat and it glides on smoothly again — no grit on your skin.
Very neutral overall. The certified organic suet we render has almost no natural odour. We blend in extra virgin tamanu oil (just one of several high-quality organic oils in the formula), which adds a very subtle, pleasant coffee-like note. There are no essential oils or added fragrance.
